I began this painting outdoors in England, looking down a long avenue toward the towers of Windsor Castle, and finished it later in my studio. I kept the stone towers quiet and gray-brown against a thick, creamy sky, and let the russet and green trees on either side frame the view. Small figures walking along the path give the scene its scale.
